The Molly - A fabulous way to spend a day!

A little golf, a lot of laughs, great food, wonderful prizes … all to benefit women and children.

The Molly is a great opportunity to play a fun and relaxing round of golf on a stunning course.  The day begins with registration followed by a shotgun start.  Teams are made up of four women each who have numerous opportunities to win prizes as they swing their way around the course.  There are hole-in-one and surprise holes.  You can also challenge yourself on the ‘hit-the-green’ holes and improve your score using mulligans.

Following a wonderful day on the links, participants can enjoy refreshments while checking out the silent auction tables.  The donated items are The Molly’s main source of fundraising and participants' support is appreciated.  A delicious dinner is served in the early evening before the auction tables close and the winners are announced.

Women love The Molly because it’s not only a great day on the course, but they want to help a local organization that assists so many women and children in our community.

Hosted by the Rotary Club of Kingston, The Molly is the sister tournament of the annual Syl Apps Classic.  Both tournaments are near and dear to the heart of Janet Grace whose parents were Syl and Molly Apps.  “During my first year as a Rotarian, I volunteered for the Syl Apps tournament and realized that a tournament for women could be just as beneficial and fun,” says Grace.  “Despite the fact my mother wasn’t much of a golfer, it was a logical choice to name it after her because she spent most of her adult life volunteering for so many charities, making a real difference in the community.”  Grace believes the tournament commemorates all women who dedicate endless hours to organizations helping women and children.

Kingston Interval House, Rotary Initiated Child Enrichment (R.I.C.E.) children's literacy programs, the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign, and the Pediatric Unit at KGH are the beneficiaries of The Molly in 2011.

“Word of mouth has raised awareness about The Molly and how it helps our community,” says Janet Grace.  “Women continue to stop me and ask when they can mark their calendars.  That’s a wonderful feeling”.  The Molly is not your typical golf tournament, which isn’t surprising when you bring more than 100 women together on a golf course.  “It’s not exactly what you can call a serious round of golf,” laughs Grace.  “Even the strong golfers let loose because they can walk away knowing they’ve helped such a worthy cause.”
